JAGRACING NEWS & VIEWS!
JAGRACING will be making a number of changes to the format & policies of this website during 2008.
Over the last few years we have mainly focussed on the racing activities of the JEC, and other non racing events etc.
As a totally independent Jaguar website we now feel that this is somewhat unfair to the other clubs and organisations that fulfill an equally important role in promoting, maintaining, restoring, and racing our beloved Jaguars.
In future it will be the aim of JAGRACING to provide as much unbiased information about any Jaguar or racing related events & activities as possible.
We have kicked this off by providing information on the most relevant racing series for those interested in any aspect of Jaguar "club" racing. More info further down this page.
In the next few weeks we also plan to compare the benefits & costs of membership of the many Jaguar clubs!
FORD SALE OF JAGUAR/LAND ROVER WILL BE ON THE 26th MARCH 2008!
The sale of Jaguar & Land Rover to Indian motor giant TATA has been pretty much a certainty for the last few months. It has just been a matter of sorting out a few details that has caused the delay.
Apparently preparation for the transfer have been going on for some time, including the Ford parts ordering system, and the continued supply of Ford produced engines etc.
The jobs of thousands of workers both at the Land Rover/Jaguar & the numerous subcontractors are considered to be safe. Tata have also tried to reassure all interested parties that their intention is to allow the companies to continue in much the same way as they have been.
It would seem that TATA may have struck lucky as Land Rover sales are at an all time high, and Jaguar have just launched what is probably their most successful new model in many years, the XF.
Tata has been collaborating with Fiat for some time and incidentally did show an interest in Jaguar itself early on. Fiat are now hoping that they may still benefit.
I think that one of the biggest concerns for Jaguar lovers would be if a cheap Indian car ends up with a Jaguar badge on it, in much the same way as the dreadful "City Rover" that resulted from the desperate collaboration with TATA by MG Rover during the companies final death throws! It would seem that this is not part of the plan!
JAGUAR GT3 LATEST
Unfortunately the Apex motorsports XKR debut season (2007) was something of a damp squib! The winter period has seen much progress however, and testing indicates that by last seasons lap times, the XKR can now expect to be towards the front end of the grid in 2008!!!
Much of this progress can be attributed to the efforts of Jaguar development engineers. Apparently there were a number of fundamental errors affecting the engine tuning i.e. boost temperature. Other areas were the handling, including the suspension & track.
All things being equal, we should see a far better showing from the XKR this season both in GT3 & BRITCAR!
PETROL PRICES REACH £5 A GALLON, but do we care?
Petrol & Diesel has reached an all time high, and is one of the highest in Europe. All indications suggest that the trend will continue the upwards spiral. Well over 50% of the cost of forecourt fuel is tax!
Are the public happy about it? No! Are the majority willing to do anything about it? It would appear not!
Towards the end of 2007 a protest was organised, virtually no one turned up! A scheme was set up with a discount card to help reduce the cost of fuel. Not enough people signed up to make it work! Various chain mails have also been sent out over the years trying to organise a boycott of selected petrol companies, to try and force a reduction at the pump.
None of these have worked, and most have been pretty half hearted. I wonder how many people take the trouble to check the cheapest local fuel prices at petrolprices.com?
Is it the the Petrol companies to blame, or is it the government, or is it the consumers for making it so easy for them to all get away with it?
NEW RACE SERIES PROVIDE COMPETITION FOR EXISTING CLUBS!
Just to keep everyone on their toes, a few new series have sprung up over the last couple of years. I have always considered that a bit of competition has to be a good thing, and any business or organisation should always remember that without their customers/members they wont survive very long!
Saloon & XJS drivers are now in the enviable position that they can now choose between at least 5 different series, to suit their ambition & budget.
JAGRACING have been exploring the options! WHICH RACE SERIES.
If anyone has a Jaguar/racing related story that they think needs airing please let us know.
