Many of the better models use the excellent Jaguar rear suspension with coilover adjustable shocks., either the XK or the XKS if a narrow rear track is needed.. If you think your engine power warrants a Limited Slip axle then choose this, in my RAM replica with 345BHP and 380ft/lbs torque I manage to control takeoff snaking without a LSD! The differential ratio can adjust the compromise between acceleration and relaxed cruising, I chose a 3.31:1 ratio which gives a 0-100MPH time of 10.5 seconds and an engine RPM of 2800 at 80MPH in the 5th gear of the Borg Warner T5 gearbox.
The front suspension usually uses XK wishbones and uprights, Although my replica uses manufactured lower wishbones which all complement the Adrian Reynard (http://www.grandprix.com/gpe/cref-reyadr.html) designed round tube space-frame chassis. As with many of the better Cobra replicas this gives superior handling compared with the two 4" tube cart sprung chassis of the original Cobra.

These were fitted to cars up to about 1981. After that came the "High Efficiency" engine which returned a staggering 12 MPG! The earlier V12 was the best of the 5.3's for BHP if you can afford the fuel! Alternatively the much later 6.0 engine may be your best bet for a 12 cylinder Cobra.
Usually a small block Chevrolet/Ford or V8 of 350/351 cu.in (5735 cc keeps to the V8 history but quite often either the Jaguar 3.4/3.8 XK or 5.3 V12s are seen. The 3.4 is a strong short stroke for high revving application, but the 3.8 is a better choice giving about 190 BHP in standard form. The V12 can be up to 7.0 litre in aftermarket versions - it looks and goes particularly well with six downdraft Webers.
