2007 XJS CHAMPIONSHIP THE FINAL CHAPTER!

Lap1 Derek Pearce leads the race from Steve Davis, Kevin Doyle, & Stewert Lyddall

At the start of the race John Lock had one more point than Steve Davis. True to form Steve put his 6 Litre XJS on pole, half a second in front of Kevin Doyle. Kevin had entered in class I so as not to influence the knife edge championship battle.

Derek's car looking the most likely to mechanical failure in the early stages!

Third placed Derek Pearce surprisingly was in P1 by the time the cars came round at the end of lap 1. Steve Davis however was glued to the bumper of Derek's black XJRS. Kevin Doyle was already 1.5 seconds behind, and continued to slip back from the leaders.

Meanwhile Steve continued to hound Derek until lap 6 when head gasket failure allowed Kevin to to make it back up to second, with Steve retiring on lap 7.

A few places back Stewert Lyddall had his work cutout keeping Chris Palmer at bay. Every time Stewert entered Copse, the gravell trap beckoned, but by some miracle he managed to just keep it on the black stuff. Presumably Chris had a detour on lap 8 which took the pressure of Stewert.

Mark Williams caused some confusion whith the class F entry with the Auto Classico prepared modified V12 Auto. Mark predictably produced a respectable qualifying effort (7th) on his debut in the XJS Championship, but had a difficult race finishing 13th. The car should have been in class E despite the result sheets saying F!

Derek Pearce about to lap Mark Williams in the 6L modified automatic.

Paul Merrett & Lawrence Coppock were also having a close fight in the early laps, which Lawrence eventually won.

Cliff Ryan got off to a poor start and spent the first 4 laps trying to get back past Philip Comer, which happened on lap 5. Unfortunately for Cliff, his race was nearly over!

Cliff Ryan, determined regain the place he lost to Philip Comer!

Andrew Harrison usually has an eventful race weekend, and this time was no exception. A brand new oil cooler pipe had parted company with its mounting flange, and proceeded to spray engine oil all over the entrance to the scrutineering bay. For some reason that escapes me, Andrew always carries a blanking bypass plate with him! (And a spare engine) Despite this minor setback Andrew passed the chequred flag in 7th place!!

Following Steve Davis's engine failure, Derek cruised to a race win, which meant that John Lock had won Class D again, and the overall Championship. Chis Palmer won Class E, and Mike Sharman took the trophy for Class F.

FOR SEVERAL DRIVERS THE SEASON HAS NOT QUITE FINISHED YET!!

Several XJS's are also competing in the CSCC future Classics 40 minute race. Many have used this as a warm up for the October Birkett 6 hour relay race, including myself & No18!

There are also a number of Jaguars heading for Daytona, and other end of season races. Not forgetting the usual end of year Track Day at Mallory Park.
