JEC SALOON CHALLENGE

If anyone can give me any more info or can spot any errors, please email me: dave@jagracing.co.uk

UPDATED 9th JULY 2007

Another good turnout for the Saloons (18), definately deserve to have their Championship status reinstated for the 2008 season! Many thanks to Colin Mckay for providing a couple of pictures and most of the report, slightly edited:

QUALIFYING

In class A, the surprise was Stephen Bantleman who was quickest in qualifying, obviously learning fast. He's only 16 and yet to pass a driving test! Tim Morrant clinched Pole only .087 ahead of Simon Lewis both class B. Chris Boon was the fastest class E just over half a second behind.

THE RACE

Having qualified 4th Mike Cann gradually slipped down the field and then going X-country at high speed which resulted in the steering idler getting bent and thus not competing on Sunday.

Colin McKay started in 15th and made a mediocre start, then picking up a few places in the early laps. Colin had Trevor Baines' X-type glued to the bumper for most of the race and as he defended the rest of the pack pulled away. Colin finished 12th and kept Trevor Baines behind him.

Tim Morrant led from the start until he lost the lead to Dave Bye who had made up 3 places on the first lap.

Unlike most other races all 17 starters finished the race! Stephen Bantleman spun twice in quick succession having led the class A for the first half of the race and ended up last in class!

Ken Angell had some trick new Gaz shocks which let him down, and Andrew Jeffery (normally in the Lister saloon but not racing this weekend) heroically drove back to Sheffield to get some replacements. What a nice guy!

RESULTS BELOW, This page will be updated a few days after the race. I would be most grateful of any pictures and info on any of the Jaguar races as I was unable to attend Cadwell!

The two pictures above were supplied by Colin McKay, Thanks!

RACE 2

Stephen Bantleman had a bad first lap losing a couple of places, and running last for a few laps!

With Mike Cann out of action Colin McKay was the sole surviving Mk2 driver, Colin started 12th and made an excellent start passing all the class A cars! Unfortunately for Colin, by the end of the 2nd lap Philip Woods and Ken Angell had both got back past. Robert Drewery then outbraked Colin as they dived down the steep hill at Mansfield.

After a couple of attempts to get back past Robert at the top of the Mountain he turned his attention defending against Trevor Baines yet again. however following a mistake in the Esses Trevor made his move and shot through. Philip Woods was now slowing with engine trouble but the chequered flag intervened before Colin could capitalise on the situation. Meanwhile nearer the front, Simon Lewis & Rick Walker had both dropped out in seperate incidents, with some damage to both cars.

The first four, Dave Bye, Tim Morrant, Richard Dorlin, & Chris Boon kept their positions from lap 1 to the flag!

Thanks again to Colin McKay for most of the above info on the race.
