XJS, SALOONS, PBJ. First JEC race of 2010
The first JEC race of the year was a trip to Snetterton
Numbers of XJS's has dropped a tad from last Octobers gathering. 14 XJS's & 13 Saloons. The Saloons & XJS's were combined for both races as most of last season, great for the spectators, a bit frustrating for the drivers!
Thanks to Mark Stabler for pictures provided!
QUALIFYING
Chris Palmer put his XJS on pole, Just a tad faster than old favourite, Stuart Lyddall (V12 XJS). Gail Hill had a great qualifying session being 4th fastest overall and took pole for the Saloons in her yellow and blue Cov Cats colours XJ6. Derek Pearce was not far behind in the Mk2. Andrew Harrisson unsurprisingly took 1st in class D XJS.
Paul Merrett ended up a long way back down the grid in his first outing with 12 cylinders.
RACE 1 (SATURDAY) Thanks to Mark Stabler for the following details!
The race was started with a 30 second gap between the 2 grids, Gail got away but missed 2nd gear, this caused Chris Boon to swerve to avoid her and in doing so he tagged the immaculate Daimler Sovereign of Richard Butterworth. The contact pushed him back into Gail and he hit her fairly hard at the rear ending his race, Gail was able to continue but had lost a good few places. She was able to get back most of them and was closing on the leading 3 saloons when she lost control on the exit of Sear and caught the verge on the inside of the track causing the car to roll. This accident resulted in a red flag to end the race and ended Gail’s racing for the weekend.
