VREDESTEIN / SOILMEC JEC SALOON CHALLENGE

BRANDS HATCH 5/6th May 2007

RACE 1 (SATURDAY)

At the sharp end Simon lewis had a brilliant start from second on the grid, wheras Tim Morant got away somewhat slower than he would have liked to.

And theyre off!

Simon Lewis takes the initial lead with Richard Dorlin under pressure from Chris boon!

Howard Kirkham also had a good start from 5th and was side by side with Chris Boon challenging for 3rd by the exit of Druids, with a similar battle going on between Tim Morrant and Rick Walker.

The action at the back of the grid was almost as close as the front.

Meanwhile midfield Phil Woods got away well and managed to get in front of Ken Angel, however this was shortlived and by Lap 2 Ken took 10th back from him again. Stephen Bantleman was another good starter having made up 3 places by Lap 2.

Tim Morrant clearly not happy with his poor start spent the first few laps determined to get back in front of Rick Walker. For a lap or to John Slater was also piling the pressure on Tim. At one stage Tim tried to get past Rick on the inside at the exit of Clark Curve and nearly coliding with the start of the pit wall! By lap 7 Tim had made it stick!

Pic1 Howard Kirkham just managing to keep David Bye at bay. Pic2 A couple of laps later and David has made the move and is up to 4th.

Tim Morrant possibly trying a little too hard!

Whilst David Byes fortunes were improving by the minute, Tim Morrant's were progressively deteriorating as he performed a crowd pleasing spin at Clearways!

Stephen Bantleman & Phillip Woods

Towards the tail end Stephen Bantleman was ahead of Phillip Woods for a few laps, and looked like stayiing there until the last lap when phillip managed to make it back past again!

.

Pic1 Colin McKay negotiates Clearways ahead of Andrew Jeffery. Pic2 Andrew in his Lister ahead of Simon Hollingworth.

Andrew Jeffery had a couple of good races with Simon Hollingworth & new driver Colin McKay but eventualy slipped back to finish 16th, whils't Colin finished two places up from his starting position in 14th!

Having led the race for 14 laps the pressure was building on Simon Lewis, with Richard Dorlin just waiting for that oportunity to slip past!

And sure enough Richard found that gap!

Back at the front end on lap 15 Richard Dorlin found the gap he'd been searching for and won the race by .4 seconds to Simon Lewis!

RACE 2 (SUNDAY)

Reports of Sunday's race are a bit sketchy as I was abseiling a water tower at the time (as you do!)

Colin McKay had a short race on Sunday due to windscreen problems as can be seen from the picture below kindly supplied by JEC Racing.

In Colins own words:

"I was black flagged after my screen exploded as I turned in for Druids on lap 3, a threepenny bit/half a crown moment (over 50’s joke). I managed a further 3 laps before they brought me in, and they were quicker than the first 3, I’ve always enjoyed wind-in-the-hair motoring. One lesson I learnt that day was to close your visor before knocking the glass out!"
