SATURDAY 25th AUGUST XJS CHAMPIONSHIP
23 XJS's made it onto the grid for the first of two JEC races at the famous Northants track! The circuit for Saturdays race was the longer 2.249 mile International layout. Most of drivers have not experienced this track before, but it seemed to be popular with most!
Ralph Hosier failed to bring the car due to an oil cooler doing an impersonation of a pond fountain minus the fish! Paul Merrett was listed in the programme but did not practice or race. I'm sure I saw him there, so assume mechanical failure? Colin McKay who joined the Saloon race series at the begining of the year made a surprise switch to XJS's in the invitation class, putting in a respectable 13th in qualifying.
PRACTICE QUALIFYING
Derek Pearce was back with his rebuilt 6L car. First time out, and he put it on pole! Steve Davis had to settle for 2nd on the grid with John Lock less than a second behind.

Surprises were, Gail Hill only qualifying 5th, Andrew Harrison qualifying 10th in front of Lawrence Coppock, and both David & Lawrence Ball qualifying at the rear of the grid.

Pic1 Colin McKay, first time out in an XJS. Pic2 Bob Beecham beeched in the kitty litter.

The gravel trap between Brooklands & Luffield was popular with the XJS drivers!
THE RACE
The biggest spanner in the works for Steve Davis's Championship quest, was the Pole position by Derek releiving him of one vital point! It must have been some consolation however when Steve quickly took the lead.
Steve Davis took the lead from lap 1, whilst Derek Pearce struggled with grip.
Gail Hill's relatively poor qualifying session was made all the worse by a spin on the first lap! damage limitation was the only course!

Gail Hill rapidly makes her way through the pack following a spin on the first lap.

Matt Skelton, Lawrence Coppock, & Andrew Harrison
Following a good qualify effort Andrew Harrison lost a couple of places at the begining of the race, and spent the remaining laps gaining them back again!
.
Pic1 Derek Pearce provided the sideways action! Pic2 Chris Palmer had his work cutout managing to keep John Lock at bay!
Report, and many more pictures will appear shortly.
