ANGLESEY 28/29th JUNE 2008
SALOONS. XJS ON HOLD, PBJ DISCONTINUED!
PRACTICE/QUALIFYING
The Saloon's achieved the best turnout of the Jaguar races with 19 starters!
ANGLESEY! Wow what a track. Rebuilt last year, Anglesey now has 3 circuits in 1 and it was the Coastal circuit that was to be used for the 6th and 7th rounds of the JEC Jaguar saloon car Championship.
All the drivers agreed that the 1.5500 mile track was definately a " drivers" track, but the heros" of the day were not to be drivers but 2 mechanics, but more on this later in the report.
Great scenery and fantastic views of the sea, 20 cars lined up for qualifying on a very breezy Saturday morning and at last, for the first time this season, Simon Lewis in the "Farecla Classics Monthly" Jaguar achieved pole position. Behind Lewis was Chris Boon in his XJR 40 and in 3rd was Richard Dorlin, all within a second of each other.

Andrew Jeffery during practice, looking a little smokey!
Ken Angell in his standard road going class A car qualified an excellent 4th, with Nick Gwinutts X300 in 5th. It was good to see Dave Bye and Rick Walker back out in their modified class B cars, but poor Tim Morrant, whose clutch failed at Rockingham, had more mechanical problems with a blown gearbox on the first qualifying lap. However, Carl Gannon and Phil Bradford of Classic And Thoroughbred (both drivers themselves and part of the "Farecla Classics Monthly" team) offered to help.

John Slater, Phillip Woods, & Ken Angel looking for the best lines!
A gearbox was sourced within 50 miles of the circuit which Gannon and Bradford collected. On their return, both old and new gearboxes were dismantled on the back of a trailor and one gearbox was made out of the two.
This was a fantastic effort by these two men as thay worked solidly from 2.00 pm to midnight on the repairs and were up at 7.00 am refitting the box to the car ready for Morrant to race 2 hours later. All this for a fellow competitor and rival, it really did show the true spirit of the JEC club racing!
THE RACE (SATURDAY)
As the lights went out for race 1, Lewis held the lead for the first 3 corners but Richard Dorlin had a fantastic start, passing Boon by the 2nd corner.

Simon Lewis takes the early lead with
a flying Richard Dorlin hot on his heels!
Lewis was extremely defensive into the 3rd corner and as a result, Dorlin had a better run on the long back straight, squeezing past lewis into the tight left hander at the top of the hill.

Boon and Angell were also attacking hard, but Lewis defended strongly and was quickly back on Dorlin's tail. The front of Lewis's car seemed to be glued to Dorlin's rear bumper for the remainder of the race!

Richard Dorlin takes the lead, but Simon Lewis won't let go!
Try as he might, Lewis could not get past, finishing 0.288 seconds behind Dorlin. Boon had also kept up the pressure and finished only 1 second behind the first two. 17 seconds down the track, Ken Angell came in 4th, with 5 cars finishing within 2 seconds of each other. Close racing indeed!!!!!!
Report by Simon Lewis, pictures Mathew Jeffery. Much appreciated!

THE RACE (SUNDAY)
Race 2 on Sunday followed a very similar format to the first, in that Richard Dorlin is proving very difficult to beat!

1st lap race 2 Richard Dorlin in the lead again!
Leading from start to finish, he had to withstand immense pressure from Boon and Lewis and again finished only a second ahead of Boon.

Keeping it on the black stuff at Anglesey is not that easy!
Unfortunately, the " Farecla Classics Monthly" car of Lewis managed to dislodge a spark plug lead, resulting in running on 5 cylinders, and dropped back to finish 3rd.
Again, 4th to 7th places were seperated by only 2 seconds with plenty of " tank slapping" and overtaking to entertain the crowd.

David Bye was not as far up the grid as usual, but not for a lack of trying!

Patrick Doyle & Brian George fight it out at the other end of the grid.
Tim Morrant, who started last as a result of his gearbox problems, also kept the spectators entertained by carving his way through the field and finishing 11th.
.
Tim Morrant had a difficult weekend, but did well to finnish 11th!
All in all, a good weekend for Lewis and the "Farecla Classics Monthly" car, taking pole, and finishing 2nd in race 1 and 3rd in race 2 ,and achieving fastest lap in both races.
Report by Simon Lewis, pictures Mathew Jeffery. Much apreciated!

XJS

Good to see Sam Clarke back on track! Will be busy with the fibreglass repair kit!
Regrettably detailed reports and results on future XJS races have now been put on hold. It was our intention to provide the fastest news and pictures from each race, which we had pretty much achieved until recently. We are no longer in a position to achieve this, therefore I recommend you follow the link to the Kutuka site with detailed XJS reports faster and more detailed than the JEC. You may even like Andrew Harrison's sense of humour! There may be a few XJS pictures depending on what is received!

Paul Merrett leads Gary Hastings, Jim Quirke, Loz Ball
PBJ
Once again the PBJ race has been combined with the Saloon V Sportscars. PBJ's have been as low as 2 this year. The latest idea is to try and combine it with the Future Classics, which sounds like a recipe for disaster to me! Can't believe that the CSCC would entertain it anyway! Therefore reports on PBJ will be discontinued until the situation improves!
SALOONS
Much consideration has been put into the future of the saloon reports as well! After careful consideration, and some persuasion by various people, we have decided to continue the Saloon coverage. Once updated, the Drivers page will only provide details on the 2008 Saloon Championship, plus previous years of all the Championships.
I would be grateful for as much help with pictures, reports, gossip, or any snippet's from the races.
XJS & PBJ SNIPPITS
Stewert Lyddall as ever won both XJS races, Gail Hill & Mark Russell strugled again! Both of the Harrison brothers featured in the DNF category in one of their races.
PBJ only had four entries in race one & two entries in race two, and the Saloon V Sports combined with PBJ only had 11 drivers! Clearly many drivers think there is a danger of falling off the edge of the planet if you venture any further west than Oulton Park!
Anyone considering racing at Anglesey should seriously consider making the effort, as it is one of the best circuits in the UK!!!!!!!
